International Forum on Judicial and Legal Education of Turkic States Held in Tashkent
On 5–6 May this year, Tashkent hosted the international forum titled “Judicial and Legal Education and Justice in Turkic States: Digital Transformation and Integration of Advanced Practices.”
The forum was organized by the Academy of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The event brought together representatives of judicial and legal education institutions from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Türkiye, educational institutions under the Prosecutor General’s Offices, as well as representatives of international organizations and prominent experts.
The forum focused on issues related to the modernization of judicial and legal systems, the introduction of modern approaches to the training and retraining of judicial personnel, and the development of judicial and legal education in accordance with international standards. Participants exchanged views on accelerating digital transformation in the sector, implementing advanced international practices, and strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation.
As highlighted during the event, Uzbekistan has been consistently implementing large-scale reforms in the judicial and legal sphere in recent years. Ensuring judicial independence, improving the quality of justice, and enhancing the system for training judges in line with international standards have been identified among the country’s priority areas.
The forum featured thematic sessions on “The Use of Digital Technologies in the Educational Process,” “International Standards and Advanced Approaches in Judicial Training and Professional Development,” and “Prospects for the Effective Application of Modern Pedagogical Methods in Training Personnel for Judicial and Law Enforcement Bodies.”
During the sessions, representatives of the participating countries delivered presentations on the introduction of digital solutions into judicial and legal education systems, the development of e-learning platforms, the application of innovative methods in judicial training, and the expansion of international cooperation.
At the conclusion of the forum, the heads of judicial and legal training institutions of the Turkic states signed a joint protocol. The document will serve as an important basis for further strengthening cooperation, exchanging experience, and implementing joint educational programmes.
On the second day of the forum, members of foreign delegations visited the Academy of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Guests familiarized themselves with the Academy’s activities, educational process, research work, and modern infrastructure.
During the visit, presentations were delivered on the Academy’s “Electronic Education” software system, academic curricula, and research activities. In particular, the advanced approaches used in shaping the psychological profile of future judges attracted considerable interest among participants.
In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Academy of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Academy of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The document is expected to elevate bilateral cooperation in the field of judicial and legal education to a new level.
At the end of the forum, participants were introduced to Uzbekistan’s rich historical and cultural heritage through a special cultural programme. In particular, visits were organized to the Center of Islamic Civilization and the historical monuments of Samarkand.
Overall, the international forum served as an important platform for discussing contemporary trends in judicial and legal education, studying advanced practices, and further strengthening cooperation among the Turkic states.
